Comporta: A Sandy Paradise

About an hour south of Lisbon lies a stretch of sandy white beaches with calm blue waters and unspoilt landscape. It’s still one of Europe’s best well.kept secrets and it’s a perfect getaway from the busiest beaches of Lisbon for its quietness and beauty.

a perfect playground

Perhaps discouraged by the hours long drive, most people in Lisbon prefer more local beaches, while many of Setúbal’s natives prefer the nearby beaches of Arrábida or Tróia. For this reason, Comporta is a perfect playground for a family, pets or someone who appreciates having lots of space between themselves and other sun-seeking neighbours.

Historical harbour

Not far from Comporta is the palafitte or stilt port of Carrasqueira, built in traditional wooden stakes and which has served as anchorage for local boats. On the wharf, stand small buildings which support the fishermen. It is a famous hotspot with all sorts of photographers.
